Vacation is over

I had to come back. According to this post at NAM:

Great News!!I can say that the A Mini Vacation In Vegas 2004 event is in no danger of being canceled for lack of insurance. There’s a 99% probability that insurance for the club will be in place in time to cover the club. I also have a failsafe plan if the club is unable to obtain insurance. In other words, “the show will go on”. BTW, you have less than two weeks to make you group rate hotel reservations.I want to thank all of those of you who’ve been involved in assisting me in getting this resolved.Again, Thank you for your understanding and patience of this situation.

Look like the vacation is back! WOOHOO

Also, take a minute to check out J/C’s site for a nice year-end wrap up slide show.

Buttonwillow is coming up fairly soon. I’m set except for tires, which I should have this week. Gotta put the harness back in Roxy too.

Oh yea, going to have an out-of-state visitor for a few months. Josh will be coming to SoCal to avoid the extra super duper harsh Nebraska winter. You’ll meet him soon enough.

Heel/Toe shifting

Posted in General — by db on 12/15/03

This was asked of me today, and I’ve been try to figure it out myself, so I’ve done some reading…

First Richard has a great write up about it here. it’s a great place to start.

Then, I found this, complete with diagrams.

I guess otherwise it’s just practice, practice, some more practice and then maybe just a bit more practice. Oh yea, probably wouldn’t hurt if this were practiced a bit either.

I’ve been trying this on Ortega Highway, and it is much more difficult than it sounds. I think that the MINI pedals are just enough out of whack to make this just that much more confusing. Well, I’m still trying.

A Little help

Posted in General — by db on 12/15/03

This from The MINI Vegas Vacation Website:

As you may have been aware, Arizona Mini Owners has been the title sponsor for AMVIV 2004. As of last night’s (12/13/2003) annual club meeting they have chosen a new insurance policy that does not cover out-of-state events, such as the Las Vegas event. I now need someone to step up and be the primary sponsor.

If I do not have a primary sponsor for the event by Dec 31st, 2003, I will be canceling the trip. NorCal MINI owners will still have their “Track Day”, but there will be no organized event called “A Mini Vacation In Vegas 2004″.

I need your help.
Saddened and dishearten, but not giving up yet,
Dominic Tuso

This does not look good gang. Anyone have any suggestions?

Track Day

Posted in General — by db on 12/14/03

Brad Herman is out at Willow Spring this morning running on the Streets Of Willow course, or Ford Land as he calls it. Many Focus’ and Mustangs, some Hondas (including a race prepped trailered in car) and a couple of BMW’s. There is supposed to be another MINI out there today, but as of 7:30 it had not yet arrived.

And, Brad being the gadget guy that he is, he’s got the GPS all revved up so that he can track elevation, speed and position. Of course he will then be able to transfer that into a program and produce a full 3-D image of the track! very cool

More as it becomes available

Also, everyone else is ready for Buttonwillow, right? Just check the counter over there for time remaining. There aren’t any available spaces, so if you missed it, you’re out this time around.

Other track events:
NorCal MINI’s are sponsoring a track event at Pahrump during the MINI Vacation in Vegas. Contact Phillip Stewart for more information.

Racer Factory will be back out at Pahrump again in March. More info here

Red Line Track Events has their ’04 schedule posted here

These are all open events. Anyone with a car and a helmet can tag along! Check with the event organizers for pricing.

Because my host offers it, I thought I’d try it out. You can too if you like:
