and now, for something completely different….

Posted in My MINI — by db on 06/25/04

So, was driving into work this morning. Went to hit the down window switch for the passenger side window. Nothing happened. I thought I hit the fog lights by mistake (I kinda do that all the time still). So I looked, made sure I was hitting the right switch, and I was. Even made sure I was pressing down. I was. Still, no movement on the window.

I continue my journey into work, trying the window every now and again. Still nothing. I figure a quick ‘reboot’ in the parking lot of my office should do the trick. I restart Roxy, still nothing.

I hit the switch, I hear a click in the door, but nothing happens. I’m guessing a bad relay or the motor already burned out. Figures it happens 4K outside of warranty too, huh?

Unless, any of you, oh the faithful readers of dbmini.us, have seen this before and could possibly point me the right way to a possible fix…

Now I gotta get one…

Have you seen this yet? Caught it last night on the TV.

Or, you could read all about it here.

Of course I am referring to the iPod connection for BMW’s/MINI’s. I’ve somewhat embraced iTunes already, now I guess I’m going to have to bite the bullet and get an iPod.

iPod gets wheels

Posted in MINI News — by db on 06/22/04

Oh yea, this is really official now. I know that Gabe has been talking about this for the last week or so, but it’s now made it to other, non-MINI, media outlets.

Apple and the BMW Group have introduced an adaptor that allows iPod and BMW customers to plug their music collections directly into their car sound systems.

The two companies worked for a year to jointly develop the system that will work in BMW’s newer model 3 Series, Z4 Roadster, X3 and X5 sports utility vehicles and the Mini Cooper.

You can read the full story here.

Pricing seems to be set at $149 for the unit, and $149 for installation.

Now, if I only had an iPod…

a few more changes

Posted in General — by db on 06/19/04

I had the opportunity to view dbmini over dial-up this past week and wasn’t pleased with the overall load time. Removed the image behind the side bar and changed a few minor settings. This should be it for a while.

kind words

Since we all love reading about what others think about our beloved cars….

The Mini Cooper has to be one of the best-handling cars made, regardless of price — and I wasn’t even driving the Mini Cooper S, the high-performance model. My base model really did handle like a go-kart — the comparison that most people come up with when trying to describe the scintillating performance. It simply doesn’t let go, ever. Braking, as you might expect, is above par, too.

The writer does go on to complain about the ride and storage in the doors. But all of the rest was very positive! I for one like the ride that Roxy gives me (sans runflats, of course) and find the door panel storage bins to be more than useful. The hold my FSR Radio’s quite nicely!

At least he didn’t complain about the cup holders…
