Cool new stuff at motoringfile

Checked out the Motoring File Newsroom yet? Pretty cool. Provides a quick look at the major forums, a few blogs (yours truly included), the Yahoo! and Google News feeds and the latest Marketplace feeds from NAM. If you are in a rush, it’s a quick and handy thing to check out if you only want to check the latest at a few sites. Not sure if more sites will be added, but be sure to check in on it.

If you are looking for a more detailed list of MINI information, you are still going to want to continue visit Mark over at GoMotoring.com to keep up on the latest for just about every MINI Page with an RSS feed. The site is split up, with 1 page for a list of topics and 1 with more detail. Mark keeps a keen eye on the MINI sites and whenever a new one pops up he adds the feed to the site right away!

It just keeps getting easier to get that MINI fix!

Tire update

Ok, I like ‘em. Nice and quiet. Stiff enough to handle the corners well. Handled the wet real well too! Dare I say these are better than the Pirelli’s? Yep.

Hopefully this morning I’ll get to push them over Ortega Hwy. a little more to see how much they can handle.

picture day, kinda

In preparation for the new layout, I thought some new header graphics were in order.

I’ll get the full source pics posted in the gallery tomorrow. Betcha can’t wait to see the new layout now, right? :D free sneak peaks available at this link for the next day, but it might change, links won’t work and it very well could explode. You have been warned. ;)

Tires…finally

Finally able to get to the tire shop today and get 2 new shoes for Roxy.

Remember, I have 2 separate sets of wheels and tires. One is for daily driving (the set currently on Roxy) and the other is for more spirited driving and track days (stacked up in the garage).

The tires I replaced today were Pirelli P8’s These are P6’s, but the tread pattern is very similiar

Great in the weather, good ride and fairly quiet. Didn’t handle that great until a bit of wear got on them. Overall I was pleased with them. This time around I wanted to try something new as well as get them from America’s Tire/Discount Tire. In a 205/50 16 they have, among others, the Kumho Ecsta ASX: Click for more info

Remember, these are daily drivers. I need something that has a descent ride, not too loud and great traction when it rains or whatever. These will get tested later tonight on the drive home and I’ll be sure to report back.

For those of you wondering why I didn’t put the Yoko’s back on…have you ever driven those in really nasty rain? Or roads that have more than .5″ of water after said rain? Yea, might as well be running slicks IMO. If it’s a light rain without much accumulation, they work great! When it’s coming down at the rate of an inch an hour, not so much. They do handle the twisties pretty well but at the price of reduced ride quality. Normally not that big of a deal, but when you are driving 500+ miles a week it really makes a difference.

More later with the wet handling performance of the tires.
