And, according to my calendar, yesterday was the first day of stumble season! YAY!
There are still some fixes for those of you that experience this warm weather MINI phenominon, especially for you ’02-’04 drivers.
’02-’04 MC – Make sure you are running at least v37 of the ECU software, if you are still running the factory ECU programing. I will tell you that v39 isn’t that much of a help. So, if you are running at least v37, you’re good. Well, unless you are in a state that requires smog stuff, then you are stuck getting the upgrade. If you still experience the stumble, here are some things that really won’t work (I’ve tried)
- Turning off DSC
- Changing plug wires
- Changing intake or exhaust
- Replacing any filters
- Doing the dance of [insert favorite dance name]
- Putting new air in your tires
Yes, that’s right, as a service to you, the loyal dbmini reader, I have tireless tested all of the above and each one of them (including 10 different dances) had no effect.
Now, for you MCS owners, from what I understand it’s a little bit easier for you:
- Upgrade to the latest, greatest, bleeding edge version of the software
This latest version should also cure any weirdness you have with your cruise control (’04 and later) as well as keep the smog police away.
Of course, that may or may not fix your problem. If it does not, feel free to try any of the procedures listed above. Especially the dance. If they work, please report back.
Maybe you don’t have the stumble? Ok, sure, I know some MINI’s have to exist in Alaska and way northern Canada, so you don’t count! :D
Me, stumble? It’s almost as if it never went away. But, only when the A/C is running and only at idle. I’ve had it looked at too many times to count and have just come to the realization that Roxy is going to shake and shudder every time we come to a stop. I think it’s just her way of protesting horrible SoCal traffic!
We did manage to get a fair amount of rain here in SoCal this last week. And, with about 2K miles on them, I just wanted to report back that the Kumhos are working awesome! No hydroplanning, tramlining or slippage. I even like the ride and the overall handling.
Can’t wait to put these on the rear too.
Talking with Miles tonight, we are discussing his eventual letdown and disappoint with the service at Crevier again. He tells me one of things he is having looked at is his drivers side window. Turns out it’s not dipping when he opens or closes the door.
Turns out, this is something you can fix yourself! A quick NAM search via Google returns the answer!
From this thread:
Reset the windows by holding the toggle in the up position for about 10 seconds. They will then drop down when opening the door.
And that should do it! Miles will report back if that fixed him up or not.
This is pretty cool:
A Scandinavian-based ocean transportation company has developed a new power concept for large carrier ships that utilises fuel cells. Designed by a team of naval architects, environmental experts and industrial designers, the concept ship has close to zero emissions capability and no ballast water onboard. “We believe that the shipping industry as a whole must put more effort into developing sustainable deep sea transportation solutions,” said Nils Dyvik, chief executive of Wallenius Wilhelmsen, which developed the ship. “Wallenius Wilhelmsen is determined to be at the forefront of these efforts as our three year sponsorship of WWF to help protect and preserve marine life on the High Seas demonstrates,” he added. The new ship, the E/S Orcelle, will emit no emissions into either the air or sea, and uses renewable energy to meet all propulsion and onboard power requirements.
I remember reading about Mercedes playing with this as well a few years ago, plus we know that BMW is also working on similiar technology.
My question, if they can make it work on a multi-ton ship to produce gobs and gobs of clean, reliable power, why can’t they do the same on everyday cars and trucks with far less power requirements? My guess is because none of use want to pay $65K for a Ford Focus, and until someone does, the prices won’t come down.
But it’s still cool that it’s being done on a big ship!
Thanks Bruce to bringing to my attention the problem with the gallery. It has been corrected. Go head and check
