A big thanks to Miles for letting me test drive his MINI with all of the same suspension mods that I have been too chicken to install on Roxy.
I will be chicken no longer!
Miles’ setup includes the M7 springs and HR Comp. rear sway bar. Wow! The way she handled was perfect! Totally flat in the corners. Way less work too. And the ride was almost exactly like an MCS (or MC with SS+ suspension).
I’ve got the springs already. 1 set of Eibach’s from a fellow SCMM member, just need the rear sway. I know that Nopi has some great prices, anyone know of any other places? The install? Yea, I’ll be making the trek up to Steve’s for that for sure!
Well, as soon as Roxy gets back from the shop anyway…
I did post this awhile ago, but if I were to jump on the MINI upgrade bandwagon like some people are doing or or have already done, it would go a little something like this
And I do mean a little…but to help out in covering the cost of that dumbass hitting me, I’ve put in some google ads. Don’t worry, if you stay current you won’t even see them (same with you RSS readers). But, if you are feeling so inclined in helping me to cover at least some of my insurance deductible, feel free to give a click!
I was detoured this morning around Ortega Hwy. So, since I was driving by the shop anyway, I stopped in and Checked on Roxy.
Still waiting on parts (bumper and seat frame), but she is sitting in the shopped covered in a giant plastic bag everywhere except the boot. Last night they primed her in preparation for paint. Can’t even think about seeing the dents either.
The service writer then gave me a complete tour of the shop, showing me where the paint shop was and all that. What they do is paint the car and the bumper at the same time, but not with the bumper installed. Then, once the paint has dried, they install the bumper and all the other stuff that currently is not on the back of the car.
The shop itself was VERY busy with mostly BMW’s in 1 stage or another of repair. Eventhough it was busy, it was also very clean. There were a few MINI’s there as well, 1 DS/W with the front end completely disassembled and a CR/W MC with some front end damage.
Of course, I had to stop at Crevier on the way to the office too, where I saw the MCS I would be ordering, or at least very close to it. What an awesome color combo!
Got the list from the body shop yesterday:
- Front seat frame, top and bottom, to be replaced
- Front seat belt buckle to be replaced
- Rear bumper cover to be replaced
- Cooper and MINI emblems to be replaced
- Boot door repaired
- Entire rear end of car will be dismantled and repainted
- SRS reset (airbag light*)
The service writer at the body shop did say that there could be more, only because they haven’t actually gotten her into the shop yet to check the frame, suspension and anything else that could go wrong after getting hit. They actually gave me an ETA too of the first week in May. Since I’ve had seat repairs done before and know how long it really takes, I’ll be surprised if Roxy is actually ready that early. I’m going for the 2nd week in May.
Since they have it there, I did inquire about pricing for repainting the front end. You know how they say if you have to ask, it costs too much. Yea. Approximate quote is $1,000 and I doubt that includes replacing the chrome on the bumper or the front grill. Oh well, something to save for I guess.
*I told them they probably won’t be able to reset the airbag light due to a problem with the passenger side seat. More as it becomes available…
