Today in fact I posted my very first podcast. Of course I never thought that that I would be here telling you we are getting ready to put up our 101st show at WhiteRoofRadio (show #74/#75 actually, but with the club and event shows, audio reviews and other misc. whatnot, it’s 100) and planning what to do for woofcast 100 and beyond!

This was only something to do to kill a few hours a week when I started it. Then Todd came on board and it rocked. Then we brought in Gabe (and the latest news from Motoringfile) and it rocked even more. Slowly but surely we have developed it into what it is now.

But, there is no way it would have gotten as far as it has without you, the listener, and all of your feedback, participation and help in promoting WRR to everyone that would listen. THANK YOU!

Is there more stuff coming in the future? Oh yea, you bet! Robert will continue to send in those soundseeing tours (I think they are just an excuse to have a young pretty girl ride shotgun, but I could be wrong), Michael Babishkin and I will be revisiting the event cast in July, covering all of the club stuff for MTTS. Plus the woofcasts will continue with more product reviews, more interviews and, of course, more yellow/automatic bashing!

Thanks for listening!

A good run

Posted in My MINI — by db on 06/26/06

disclaimer*: The following post recalls driving on a road with speeds that some might find scary, dangerous, stupid, irresponsible and/or scary. First, I really don’t care. Second, enjoy the story.

Finally get a clear road on my drive into work today!

Out of nowhere and closing fast on my rear view mirror was what appeared to be a semi-race prepped Suzuki Motorcycle (without rear view mirrors). Feeling playful, I accelerated up the road, trying to give the rider a run for his money. He was running closer than I would have liked for a public road, so when it got clear I gave him the point by.

Through a section that has a limited speed limit, he slows way down. I have a feeling he wants to play.

The speed limit again goes back up to the legal limit and he’s off. More of a fast cruise than anything, but I’m right there with him. Right before the next section of tighter turns, he slows way up, turns and motions me to ‘come on!’.

So, I did. On my street tires (Pirelli P8′s) and stock suspension with 124K miles.

(you can image what happened here.)

He stopped at the bottom and I pulled up next to him. He praised me for doing so well and, oddly enough, looked pretty shocked when I told him I had about the same horsepower he did with 3 times the weight, street tires and suspension with 124K miles on it.

Yea, I love my car.

*A disclaimer? can you believe it?

White Roof Radio Problems

Posted in podcasts — by db on 06/25/06

UPDATE This site is up and running again and iTunes should have the show. If you aren’t able to get it, give it a few more hours. Seems there was also a DNS hiccup when I took the site offline last night. /UPDATE Somehow the account of whiteroofradio became compromised and everything was deleted.

It’s going to be a couple of days until everything is 100% back to normal. I will be working on getting the most current shows posted ASAP.

Thanks for your patience.

Can you believe…

Posted in General — by db on 06/19/06

From this NPR Audio Clip, towards the end, they reveal that the new James Bond, actor Daniel Craig, did not know how to drive a stick shift!

What is this world coming too?

Thanks to WRR listener Paul L. for pointing this out to us. Want to hear more? Check out #70 where we do talk a little about automatic transmissions. Not very much, but enough to, um, get your attention? ;)

Support the racers!

Posted in MINI Events — by db on 06/16/06

Most of you have seen this already or heard me talk about it. Just trying to drum up a little support and enthusiasm for the NAMCC.

You are certainly aware of the Whiteroofradio efforts to help Randy and Brian keep the WMS cars in the series. If not, you can get some more info here. A new page has also been posted to help support Waylen from Way Motor Works. You can get the info to support him here.

Have I helped? Why yes, yes I have. Both teams? Yep. Why?

This isn’t about raising money. It’s about keeping the series going. There are only 2* races left and it would be a shame if either of the only 2 race teams that have been to all of the races couldn’t go. There aren’t many cars on the track as it is, and to remove 3 of them would not be a race.

Another thing you can do, but it’s more in support of the series than the individual race teams is to actually head out to any of the next races and watch. Yell and scream at the edge of the track for your favorite! Take pictures and post them to your flickr to help spread the excitement. Get your club together and make it an outing for the day.

Your support, no matter how you do it, will only help further MINI Racing here in the US. Besides, it’s fun! The races are very exciting to watch. The action in the pits can be equally exciting to watch as well!

Oh yea, if you kicked in a few bucks to either team (or both), you can also walk around telling your friends “well, yes, I do sponsor a race car”. They don’t have to know you only sponsored for $5 or $10, we’ll leave that as our little secret ;).

You can see the schedule for the rest of the year here. Really, if you can, try to make it out to any of the last races. You’ll have fun, I promise!

*There are actually 3 races left, but the final event at Buttonwillow will not be for points.
