Here in Maricopa County, Arizona, the weather is usually pretty warm. Even in the winter, average temps hover in the 70′s. Rarely, if ever, does it snow, and when it does, it usually melts before it hits the ground or shortly thereafter.
Which got Stella to thinking. Since she doesn’t live in Philly any more, and since she is a huge fan of the wheels that she has on her MINI now, it might be time to get rid of the snow tires. That are attached to the original 15″ Holey.
Photos of all of the wheels can be seen here.
This is a set of 4. All of the wheels are in excellent shape, free of any scratches or dents and are not bent. The tires, Pirelli Winters, have less than 1,000 miles on them. The entire set can be yours for $400. We prefer to sell them locally, but will ship them, at your expense*, to you. The entire set is for sale, not individual wheels. The tires are included whether you want them or not.
These wheels will work on any of the first generation MINIs (R50/R53) or any car that takes a 4×100 offset 15″ wheel (Honda/Toyota). From my understanding, these will not work on any of the current generation MINIs (R56/R55/R57). At least not easily.
Comment below if you are interested.
Also for sale but not shown is a set of four 16″ 5-Star MINI Wheels. All 4 are in good shape. I used them for track-days only. Price is also $400.
*Shipping costs for these wheels and tires, even to California, might be cost prohibitive. You can calculate costs based on 4 boxes, 24″ x 24″ x 12″ that each weigh 30lbs, shipped from zipcode 85226.

A long time ago I suggested that, when it comes time to get tires, that you skip getting run flats and go with a normal tire. Improved ride and handling, plus they are cheaper. I still think that is the way to go.
Pictured is the Pirelli Eufori@ Run Flat and it costs $US205 from tires.com for a 205/45r-17. For comparision, the same size Kumho Ecsta AST non-runflat costs $US99. On a set of 4, that’s a huge savings!
“But db”, you say, “what happens if I get a flat?”
Most of the time, at least for me, flats happen when I’m near either my house or work. I’ve been lucky to not get a flat during a road trip or when I was in unfamiliar territory (or a desolate stretch of I-70). I’m also a huge cheapskate as I’ve mentioned before, and paying an extra $US400+ for a set of tires doesn’t work for me. Finally, I have a spare, so I don’t worry about it.
But for you that don’t have a spare, might I recommend the following.
Run flat tires are expensive, don’t provide the greatest ride (although on the R56/R55 it is better than the R53) and don’t handle as well as their non-runflat counterparts. Also, if you have a Cooper, you already have a spare tire (check under the boot and read your manual), so getting run-flats isn’t necessary.

The distance between the moon and the Earth varies from around 356,400 km to 406,700 km at the extreme perigees (closest) and apogees (farthest). On 19 March 2011, it was closer to the earth while at full phase than it has been since 1993.[87] Reported as a “super moon”, this closest point coincides within an hour of a full moon, and it thus appeared 30 percent brighter, and 14 percent larger than when at its greatest distance
Depending on what number you look at (and how nerdy you want to be), the moon is between 221,456 and 252,711 miles from Earth. Or pretty gosh darned close to how far I have driven my 2003 MINI Cooper since I brought her home on March 6th, 2003. If the average driver (my age) drives 18,858 miles per year (via), then I’ve driven the equivalent of 13.4 years worth of miles.
And she keeps on going. I especially like it when I tell people how many miles I have on her. The look on their faces is usually priceless and it almost always causes them to do a complete walk around the car for another look. And, for the record, the color always get compliments. Velvet Red, in my own personal opinion, is one of the best colors ever put on a MINI. It’s really too bad that I’m one of 3 people that agree and actually purchased it.
As previously mentioned, I just had my 2nd alternator replaced. I’ve got a brand new wish list started as well that I hope to start clearing out in a month or two, starting with replacing the right side axel (again) and all of the upper mounts (engine and transmission). I’m also going to be doing a front brake job pretty soon and need to start thinking about shocks.
The end game to all of this, of course, is getting Roxy to the big 300. 300,000 miles that is. I’m pretty sure she’s got it in her.

The last time we spoke about an alternator was way back in November of ’08, right after I turned 200,000 miles on the odometer.
Fast forward to the number you see above. 251,972. Subtract about 20 miles from that and rewind back in time to 7/26/11. That’s when the unit actually went out. It was a rebuilt alternator that I picked up from an independant parts house in California. I don’t remember if it had a warranty or not, not that it matters since it would have been cost prohibitive to actually go through a warranty thing.
The alternator that was installed today came from Detroit Tuned (just like my control arm bushings) and installed by my new favorite shop right around the corner from where I work in Tempe, Arizona; Euro Techs. Jerry is the head wrench over there, serving time at local Jaguar and MINI dealerships for the past 10 years before stepping out on his own to run his own shop.
He replaced my alternator for much less than the dealer charges for service. Not only did he replace the alternator, he also fixed my non-functioning drivers side door handle (no charge) because it needed to be done and it only took him a few minutes.
Not only that, but he gave me a nice wish list of things to get done to Roxy. Clearly written including pricing. I’m extremely impressed.
If you are in Maricopa County and looking for a place to get work done on your MINI, I highly recommend EuroTechs in Tempe! Full details below. And, for the record, I did pay for the work done today. I really like the work that Jerry did and want to do what I can to help him out by spreading the word.

Why not, I did.

BRG II with Black Roof. And I really love those wheels! Interior looks something like this.

Classy, right?
Oh yea, because it’s how I roll, this is configured as a Cooper, price is $31,000US. Cooper S came to $32,500.
If wishing made it so. Go on, do some wishing of your own.
Some other changes that you might have missed.
What did you find that struck you as weird? How much is your Coupe going to cost? Sound off below!
