Yes, you read that correctly.
Filled up today ($3.219 if you must know):
OBC: 33.8
Actual: 34.2
My trick? I have turned into a shifting fool! Roxy almost never sees anything north of 3K RPM’s anymore unless I’m getting on the freeway. Also, while I’m stuck in traffic, I hang back a bit from the car in front of me so that I can keep moving as much as possible, even if I’m coasting at >10MPH in 2nd. That does avoid the multiple start/stops that would normally kill mileage.
Are you sure?? I’ve never been anywhere CLOSE to the OBC. Even on my last tank, where I went nuts conserving as much as possible and shifting at 2k, I still only made 25.7 while the OBC reported 30.1.
I wish there was a way to calibrate it.
I am sure. I even double checked my double check. I reset at my last fill up even. Did it again this time too, to make sure it wasn’t a fluke.
I just color that another inaccuracy of my gauges. My speedo usually runs about 10% fast according the OBC too (speedo says 70MPH, OBC says 63-65).
I’m with Josh, I don’t believe it! My ’02 OBC would typically report 4-5 better than actual and so far my ’05 has reported around 2 MPG higher than actual.
I’ve noticed the difference between speedo and OBC – but which is right and which is wrong? I need to get the GPS in there and take a look.
GBMINI#3 OBC reads close to correct – unlike GBMINI#2 that was 10%+ optimistic.
I think the 33.8 / 34.2 is most likely due to the slight difference in fillup from tank-to-tank; I bet the next fill has a calculated mpg close but slightly lower than OBC so they average out.
And $3.22 is better than most around here.
Paid $3.159 last night but this tank ended up being a feeble 25.4 MPG. Unfortunately I ended up doing a lot of stop-start town driving this week so my OBC of 31 on Sunday ended up being a sorry 26.5 when I filled up.
