A new Toy

With my son being on the swim team this year, and getting so many complaints last time I posted video, I figured the time was right to pick up a new video camera.

Be sure to click through to view it in HD.

The camera is a Canon Vixia HF 100. Full HD video, 3.1 MP digital stills. More examples of video and the photos can be seen on my blog.

This should be fun at AMVIV this year!

  1. Hey DB
Hope to see you there. My first trip to Vegas if it all works out. Are you going to come to the Dragon??
Sounds like to audio is great on your camera….love the birds in the background.
    Take care

  2. Hey DB, I actually went the opposite direction. I just picked up a new Nikon D90 SLR digital camera with 18-105mm and 70-300mm Nikkor lenses. The D90 is the first SLR camera to offer 720p HD video (although you can only take 5-10 mins max of video in this format).

I am still learning how to use it but the Nikon D90 is so far a pretty impressive piece of hardware.

  3. I thought seriously about going that way instead, but I’m exceptionally happy with the results I get out my camera now.

There is, of course, always the D5. Full HD video (1080p) for as much memory you have in your camera. A bit spendy at $2K (or thereabout), but the video and photos it takes are truly fantastic.

  4. Your Vixia’s video quality is pretty impressive as well, DB.

The D5 is sweet but at $2K I think it is better to wait for prices to come down. Besides, 720p HD video still impresses me enough and looks great on my 32″ Samsung Series 4 LCD TV.

  5. I’m going to be playing with resolutions. That YouTube sample is a full res upload that they convert down to 720p. That’s going to be my next test.
