Since she is staying

It’s time to get Roxy ready for Summer. With 154k miles (yes, you read that correctly), I need to get a few things done, or do them myself.

  • Radiator flush and fill.
I could have the service dept. do this, but I’m afraid they would want to charge me over $200 and I really don’t think it would take more than an hour in my driveway, plus drive time to dispose of the old coolant. Has anyone done this?
  • Seat covers.
This one I’m going to have to do soon before the hole that has developed in the driver seat gets any larger.
  • Wiring harness.
No choice but to have the service dept. do this. Last time I had Roxy in they told me it needed to be replaced, and just this week I got the dreaded DSC and Flat Tire warning lights (DSC was on and my tire pressure is perfect). I’m going to try to wait until after MINI United to do this one.
  • Plug wires.
I ditched the OEM wires at the same time as when I put in the K&N intake, about 120K miles ago. I think it’s time to order up a new set. Oh yea, in case anyone is wondering, you can get about 140K miles out of the factory plugs.

Once all that is done, THEN I can start on the suspension mods. I’ll probably start with new shocks and an HR rear sway and go from there. Depending on how that works out, I might do the front sway bar (no, not that silly under bonnet thing) as well. I’ve driven an MCS on the track that had this done and really liked that setup.

On the MINI United front, I’m about a week or so out from booking my flights. Since Gabe will already be in country, Todd, Mrs. Todd and myself thought we’d go early and spend a day or two in London, primarily to tour the plant. Of course we’ll try to get some audio, if they’ll let us. I know they won’t let pictures, but a soundseeing tour of the plant would be awesome if we can pull it off.

I am also going to be picking up a new digital camera. Just a little point and shoot (Panasonic Lumix) so I can get lots of pictures from the trip. For that, I will either revive the gallery here or upgrade to Pro flickr account and link back. The gallery is still here, but it’s a mess. I will be working on that this weekend.

Oh yea, since Roxy will be sticking around a little bit longer, I will be using this more and more like my own personal wiki for MINI stuff. A giant wordpress powered sticky note if you will. I’m doing that now here and it works fantastically well.

  1. I like the Wet Okole covers and intend to get a set for Scrat. As much as I love the red/black cloth/leather combo, the cloth stains too easily and I’m too much of a clutz to avoid getting them all schmutzed up. It looks to be about $500 for a complete set front and rear and I’d like to do that later this year. Maybe. :-)

I’ve heard good things about the Panasonic/Leica P&S cameras, and I think Juan owns one of the Leica versions. I heartily recommend going the Flickr route!

  2. I’m a big fan of the Canon P&S models. I have the SD550 that I’m very happy with for day to day use. Plus, it’s about the size of a deck of cards so it is easy to tote around.

  3. Yea, I think flickr might be the way to go this time around. Galleries are a terrible pain.

Sure going to be nice to post something from a camera other than the one built into my razr or the iSight cam in the MacBook.
