I just checked…

And, according to my calendar, yesterday was the first day of stumble season! YAY!

There are still some fixes for those of you that experience this warm weather MINI phenominon, especially for you ’02-’04 drivers.

’02-’04 MC – Make sure you are running at least v37 of the ECU software, if you are still running the factory ECU programing. I will tell you that v39 isn’t that much of a help. So, if you are running at least v37, you’re good. Well, unless you are in a state that requires smog stuff, then you are stuck getting the upgrade. If you still experience the stumble, here are some things that really won’t work (I’ve tried)

  • Turning off DSC
  • Changing plug wires
  • Changing intake or exhaust
  • Replacing any filters
  • Doing the dance of [insert favorite dance name]
  • Putting new air in your tires

Yes, that’s right, as a service to you, the loyal dbmini reader, I have tireless tested all of the above and each one of them (including 10 different dances) had no effect.

Now, for you MCS owners, from what I understand it’s a little bit easier for you:

  • Upgrade to the latest, greatest, bleeding edge version of the software

This latest version should also cure any weirdness you have with your cruise control (’04 and later) as well as keep the smog police away.

Of course, that may or may not fix your problem. If it does not, feel free to try any of the procedures listed above. Especially the dance. If they work, please report back.

Maybe you don’t have the stumble? Ok, sure, I know some MINI’s have to exist in Alaska and way northern Canada, so you don’t count! :D

Me, stumble? It’s almost as if it never went away. But, only when the A/C is running and only at idle. I’ve had it looked at too many times to count and have just come to the realization that Roxy is going to shake and shudder every time we come to a stop. I think it’s just her way of protesting horrible SoCal traffic!

  1. GBMINI#2 never really had any stumble – before or after the JCW upgrade; but it used to have the cold-start problem (would not always start on first key turn at certain times of year/moon cycle/whatever).

    I wonder what GBMINI#3 will do …

  2. I didn’t have my MCS long enough to experience any of the problems you guys have, nor did I have the cold start problem. The stumble on v33 (I think) was horrible though, which makes up for it.

Oh yea, and Miles, let me know if Crevier can cure it this time :D (man, sometimes I kill me!)

  3. To (mis) quote Keane – my MCS likes to stumble and fall! But I am getting the ECU upgrade/emission recall done on the 28th and have my fingers tightly crossed.

  4. Man, i am so lucky my ’05 MCS has no stumblitis problem, therefore, i will never get a software upadate.
