At the risk of exposing myself as the clueless idiot that I am – what does that number actually mean?? I’m guessing it means time elapsed doing something but inquiring minds want to know.
That is the time to run 1/4 of a mile. And you are correct, it is called the elapsed time.
They do a standing start with a series of lights called a tree (or Christmas tree). The lights tick off from top to bottom. When the light hits the bottom green, they go and run to the finish line.
11.26 is pretty fast…for a MINI. The top-fuel dragsters (nitro burning 2000 horsepower monster dragsters) are running sub-5 seconds at over 300 MPH. Yes, in just 1/4 of a mile.
