There is a reason we Californian’s live here. The weather is nice 95% of the time. From just about anywhere in SoCal you can go to the beach or the mountains in about an hour most of the time.
Except when it rains
Southern California was not built for rain. Actually the entire region is desert and if it weren’t for the Colorado River it would dry up and blow away. So, when we get 15+ inches of rain in as many days, it causes problems. Floooding, mudslides, pot holes that eat tires and other road damage.
Well, the last push of the last storm that went through here early Monday really did us in. Among other damage (like La Conchita), Ortega Hwy was damaged bad enough to cause CalTrans to close it for at least 7 days!
My normal commute is right about 55 miles and usually takes me 1 hour and 15 minutes when I take Ortega Hwy. Since that road has been closed my commute time, each direction, has more than doubled. It has been taking me 2 to 3 hours each way to go roughly the same distance. So, my days start at the break of day and haven’t been ending until 8 or 9 at night.
I hope they finish repairs soon.
On a different note, there is a huge SCMM meet today. You can expect some fresh pictures in the gallery later!
